U.S. President Barack Obama left the campaign trail on the eve of his party's nominating convention to visit with Louisiana residents hard-hit by Hurricane Isaac.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Obama rallied blue collar workers in the nation's heartland, giving a Labor Day holiday address to unionized auto workers in Toledo, Ohio. He cited the U.S. auto industry's comeback as a success for his administration, telling workers he's willing to bet on them “any day of the week.”
